Cutting Edge Stencils Shares Stenciled Lamp Shade Ideas!

Good Morning, my DIY crafters! Our stenciling light bulb recently went off and it got us thinking about lamps.  Do you have a lamp shade in your life that could use a little facelift?  Cutting Edge Stencils is here to help you liven up those plain lamp shades with a pop of color and a pretty stenciled pattern.  A project like this is super easy and it’s great for first time stencilers.  To show you what a fab idea it really is, we’ve rounded up inspirational lamp shades that will have you flipping the stenciled switch in no time!

Creative Ways to Reinvent Your Lamp Shade

Creative queen, Ashley, from the blog Mommy by Day Crafter by Night, added a little color and dimension to her plain, white lamp shade with our Casablanca Craft pattern and some turquoise paint! To get this look, try painting Benjamin Moore’s bahaman sea blue 2055-40.  The results are adorable!

Clever crafter Katie, from the blog Sew Woodsy, found a floor length light fixture at the curb during a dog walk.  She was pleasantly surprised that the lamp worked however the lamp shade needed to be replaced.  After struggling to find one that she liked, she decided to stencil her own.  Katie used our intricate Zamira stencil in a sophisticated shade of blue, like Benjamin Moore’s midnight navy 2067-10. So pretty, right?

And can we tell you how excited we were when we spotted this bold red beauty?  Kim, one of our favorite die-hard crafters and blogger behind A Girl With a Glue Gun painted this drum-shaped shade.  She used our Houndstooth Stencil in a super saturated shade of crimson like Benjamin Moore’s candy cane red 2079-10. It’s gorgeous!

Shantelle from Home Decor Made EZ, needed a floor lamp that would coordinate with her living room but she was on a tight budget.  After searching high and low, she decided to craft her own shade using our Casablanca Craft Stencil in a classy, golden-neutral like Benjamin Moore’s sulfur yellow 2151-40. Perfecto!

Annette, the craft-star from Pacific Fabrics and Crafts, is totally on board when it comes to painting an old lamp shade with a stencil.  She writes, “This project couldn’t be easier and you will LOVE the new looks you can create.”  For her stencil project below, she used our Brocade No.1 Stencil in a hue similar to Benjamin Moore’s hale navy HC-154.  It rocks!

Create Your Own Canvas Wall Art Pieces with Cutting Edge Stencils!

Happy Friday, my DIY decorators!   Cutting Edge Stencils recently came across this saying on Pinterest, The Earth Without Art is Just “eh.”

Aside from the cute chuckle we got from reading it, we also had a bit of an aha moment.  We’re huge art lovers and we can’t imagine what our world would look like without it.  In fact the only thing we love more than art, is stenciled wall art!  Why, might you ask? Because stenciling a piece of wall art is not only a great way to creatively enhance your space but it’s also an easy project especially for a first time stencilers.  Today, we’re going to share four of our favorite stencils  to use when stenciling a piece of canvas art.  Let’s take a look…

Magnolia Vines Stencil:

Have you ever thought about getting a group of your girlfriends together for a craft night? Sounds like fun, right?  First up on your list of projects could be stenciled wall art!  This is exactly what Jessica, the crafty blogger behind The Lovely Side, did with a group of her girlfriends.  The girls spread drop cloths across the living room floor and then they painted mounted canvases using acrylic paints and stencils like our Magnolia Vines Stencil.  We think it’s a CRAFT-tastic idea!

Zinnia Grande Stencil:

The project on the right was painted by stencil queen Kimbo, the blogger behind Girl and Glue Gun.  You might remember her Houndstooth lamp shade we featured not too long ago. Well she created this lovely Zinnia Grande stenciled wall art for her daughter’s room.  First she painted the canvas baby pink by Americano and then she applied DecoArt Dimensional Paste.  She applied the paste as if she were frosting a cake, and let it dry.  Kimbo says, “So pretty. So interesting. I want to make a bazillion of them.”  We couldn’t agree more!

Birch Forest Stencil:

Now here’s a great stencil that can serve a duel purpose, just like it did for Liz, the crafty DIYer behind the blog Smart Girls DIY.  She used this stencil to create a custom canvas wall art for her dining room.  First she coated the canvas with a metallic paint color and then she painted the Birch Forest Stencil in an eye-catching teal.  It’s teal-rific, don’t you think?  Once she got the knack for stenciling, she painted a focal wall in her living room!

Moroccan Dream Stencil

Are you looking to add lots of color with your stenciled canvas art?  Then you’re going to like our next project. Meet Beth, the decorating enthusiast behind the blog Home Stories AtoZ. She was asked to help makeover the Nicholas House, a homeless shelter for families in Atlanta.  Since 35 of the 50 residents in the home are children, she wanted to create a dining room that screamed fun, happy, yummy, family, and smiles.  Beth originally thought she would stencil the whole wall, but quickly realized the project time frame didn’t allow for it.  She did the next best thing and stenciled a colorful canvas using our Moroccan Dream stencil.   Beth definitely achieved the bright and cheery look she was going after.  The space looks gorgeous!

Cutting Edge Stencils Shares How One Stencil Can Create Multiple Home Decor Projects

Happy Friday, my little DIY darlings! Cutting Edge Stencils hopes everyone is recovering from their candy coma this morning because we have a stencil story that will absolutely blow your creative little minds!  Start out by envisioning your home completely covered, from bedroom to bathroom, in stencils! No, no this is not some sort of spooky Halloween nightmare that we want you to visualize. Instead today we’re going to show you how reusable our stencils can be!  Are you ready to see how you can use one stencil in multiple rooms of your home without creating a stenciling nightmare? You’re ready? Then let’s begin!

We’d like to introduce you to Gina, the creative DIYer, interior designer, and frugalista all wrapped up into one great blog called A Sense of Design.  A couple of years ago she bought a cute little cottage on the coast of Sydney and since then she’s been transforming one space at a time on a super tight budget.  Gina has also managed to make FOUR home decor projects using ONE stencil! Yup, you read that right!

Kerry Damask Stenciled Master Bedroom

Her fab stenciling craze all began when she ordered the Kerry Damask Stencil (size small) to create an accent wall in her bedroom.  Gina was looking to create a subtle backdrop behind her bed so she mixed a beige pearlescent with a turquoise hue to get the perfect stencil color.  She says, “I love the subtle sheen of the pearlescent paint, it adds a little sparkle to the room.”  Doesn’t Gina’s stenciled bedroom look awesome?  We think it does!

Kerry Damask Stenciled Wall Art

In about a week, Gina was back to stenciling and this time she was creating custom wall art.  See, once the accent wall in the master bedroom was crossed off the list, she noticed the lovely red tiles hanging above her desk no longer worked with her turquoise and warm beige walls.  So she grabbed some blank canvas boards that she had laying around the house and painted them the same turquoise hue she had stenciled on her accent wall.  Then re-using her Kerry Damask Stencil, Gina painted the pattern a beige pearlescent color.  She says, “I am really happy with the end result.”  So far she’s created two awesome projects using one stencil!

Next up was the bathroom.  Gina happened to have some spare time one weekend and because of that, her bathroom got a mini makeover.  First she painted some off-white stripes and then she stenciled her Kerry Damask in a soft beige.  Her goal was to make this bathroom calm and peaceful.  We think she totally succeeded!

Can you tell that Gina is on a stenciling roll?  For her fourth stencil project, Gina wanted to create a new table cloth for the Holidays.  Her holiday theme was black and silver.   First she purchased some black Hessian cloth, which is rather inexpensive.  Then she stenciled her Kerry Damask pattern in a metallic silver using acrylic craft paint. Simple and elegant! Her newly designed table cloth is perfect for a holiday gathering.

Learn How To Create A Stenciled Tablecloth In Four Easy Steps

Good morning, my DIY home decorators!  It was just this past Friday that Cutting Edge Stencils shared a post by Gina from A Sense of Design that featured our Kerry Damask stencil painted across a black tablecloth.  So pretty, right?

Then over the weekend one of our talented fans, Tea, sent us these gorgeous pictures of stenciled tablecloths that she painted for her home using our Zinnia Grande Stencil…

She also created this blue-tiful version using the same stencil. We love it!

With the holidays just around the corner, stenciled tablecloths are certainly on the rise.  Look at this gorgeous creation by GingerSnap Crafts using our Turkish Tulip pattern.  We’d love to be invited to this luncheon!

We’d like to say hello to Jessica, the crafty DIYer and blogger behind Lemon Tree Creations.  She was looking to add some flattering table decor to her dining room.  She found this adorable polka dot fabric at her local thrift store but it needed something.  She put her crafty thinking cap on and decided to give it a paisley touch by adding our Sari Paisley Wall Stencil in a vibrant blue.  We think it’s totally awesome.  Now let’s take a look at how she crafted it!

Here is the scoop on how to stencil a tablecloth (this project comes from Lemon Tree Creations):

First you’re gonna need this stuff listed below:

1. Gather Materials: Start the stencil project by gathering all of the materials listed above.  If it’s needed, iron the drop cloth or fabric to remove any wrinkles.  For this project, Jessica used a piece of polka dot fabric that she found at a local thrift store.  You could easily use a drop cloth to create a whole tablecloth similar to the one shown above by GingerSnap Crafts.

2. Secure The Stencil: Position the stencil design on the piece of fabric. Then you can secure the stencil in place using painter’s tape.

3. Start Stenciling:  Pour your craft paint onto a plate or paint tray.  Mix up the paint with the fabric medium (2 parts paint to 1 part medium).  Then dip your stencil brush into the paint. Blot off the excess paint onto your folded paper towel until the brush looks almost dry.  The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible.  Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge.  Next you will paint the design onto the canvas square with the stencil brush using a dry brush (stippling) technique.  Stippling is when you tap the brush repeatedly over the stencil opening.

Now let’s position it on our table and presto chango, we have a gorgeous tablecloth!   Oh, and this project is so easy that even a first time stenciler could get the hang of it.  Jessica had this to say about her stencil project, “I was able to bring out a unique and inviting style to my now “not so shabby” little nook! (which I simply can’t take my eyes off of!)”  Great job, Jessica!

Stenciled Sparks Fly from these Fireplace and Mantel Décor Ideas

Good Morning, my home décor enthusiasts!  It’s getting chilly outside so Cutting Edge Stencils would love to settle in near a charming fireplace.  Wait, is your fireplace not looking so charming these days?  No worries, my friend.  We have some ideas on how you can give your fireplace a makeover and enjoy it through the wintery months.  Better Homes and Gardens says that for an attention grabbing look, “The mantel and surrounding wall are integral to your fireplace design.”   We couldn’t agree more! So are you ready to get toasty with stencils?

Take the lead from Stephanie and stencil some enchanting wall art to hang above your fireplace.   After watching some of our stenciling videos, she selected acrylic craft paint in blue, pink and cream colors along with our Junior Mural Stencil Kit to paint her masterpiece.  She says she “loves the outcome and can’t wait to complete the next project.”  We love it too!  We also think stenciling wall art is a great project for those who want to spruce up their fireplace without committing to painting a wall.

But if you are ready to take your fireplace makeover to the next level then here’s a project for you!  Stacy the queen of DIY from the blog, Not Just a Housewife, painted this gorgeous nook above her brother’s fireplace.  This space started out dull and dreary until Stacy dazzled it over.  She used our Alessa Scroll Stencil and a warm butter hue to give this fireplace its toasty look!

Similar to Stacy’s project, our Pinterest pal The Staged Style also stenciled the space above the fireplace.  The Staged Style used our Zamira Allover Stencil in a bold blue hue to create this fireplace accent.  They believe a mantel is a great focal point within a living room and that a dramatic wall stencil in this small area can make a BIG difference. We think they might be onto something because this blue-tiful fireplace stencil is a total winner!

Andrea, one of our fab fans, designed this stunning fireplace.  Rather than stencil the space above her fireplace, she chose to use our Casablanca Craft Stencil to stencil the surface surrounding her fireplace opening.  You could easily replicate this look using a hue similar to Benjamin Moore’s revere pewter HC-166 and our Moroccan pattern.  Awesome work, Andrea!

Sue, another one of our creative fans, stenciled an accent wall in her living room.  She used our Rabat Allover Stencil and a creamy shade of beige like Benjamin Moore’s splendor AF-385.  By placing the stenciled pattern on the same wall as the fireplace, she totally calls attention to its beauty.  We think it looks absolutely fabulous!

Good Morning, my DIY office organizers!  The New Year has just kicked off and already you’re in complete organization mode.  Now we know on the top of that organization list is your home office.  After all it’s a room where you get things done, whether you use that space for traditional business purposes or crafting projects.  Just because you’re putting it into tip-top organization shape, doesn’t mean it needs to lack color and personality.  Cutting Edge Stencils is here to help you brighten that crafty office of yours using our stencils.  Our ideas are easy and inexpensive, so let’s take a look…

Brighten Up A Crafty Office Using Stencils

Stencil An Accent Wall:  This might be the obvious makeover solution to freshen up your office space because a pretty pattern can drastically change its look.  Creative DIYer and design enthusiast, Erin from the blog Suburban Bitches, stenciled a glittery gold pattern in her combination craft-room/office.    Erin painted the wall in Benjamin Moore’s Decorators Gray and then painted the sparkly Zagora Allover pattern using a color similar to Martha Stewart Living Metallic Paint in Golden Pearl.  It looks so pretty, we’re not sure if we’d get any work done here!

Stencil the Desk:  A plain white desk may gleam with organization but it also screams boring.  Take the lead from the DIY craft queen, Mandy, from Sugar Bee Crafts.  Mandy’s husband built her this custom white desk to fit her needs and her space.  She promptly added our Funky Wheel Wall Stencil in an eye-catching turquoise hue.  Do you love it or do you love it?

Stencil The File Organizers: Filing will become your new favorite task with stenciled file holders like these! Our creative fan, Jennifer, decided to reinvent her organization system for the New Year.  She bought some baskets for $4 and then revamped them with craft paint and our Casablanca Craft Stencil and Nagoya Craft Stencil.  We love the patterned pizazz these items add to her traditional desk!

Stencil The Memo Board: Tomorrow’s to-do list will thank you once it’s been pinned to this stenciled stunner.  Meet Heidi, the crafter behind Sew Craft Create.  She put together this adorable magnetic memo and cork board combo using our Turkish Tulip Stencil and in teal blue hue.  For the how-to, check out her post here.

Stencils and Color Combinations to Steal This Cozy “Apartment Therapy” Look!

Good morning, my stencil lovin’ friends?  Cutting Edge Stencils is having a T-riffic Tuesday, especially after yesterday’s NEW stencil release!  Have you seen them?  Make sure you check out all the newbies here and then tell us what you think in the comments below.

But getting back to today’s stencil post.  We happened to have some downtime this past weekend, so were browsing one of our favorite sites, Apartment Therapy, when we stumbled upon JoAnn’s Creature Comforts Home Tour.  It had us at hello (shown in the kitchen).  JoAnn managed to combine a tasteful dose of bold graphic patterns, touches of mid-century modern, and one killer DIY project that made her home look both comfortable and sophisticated.  Sounds pretty UN-believable, right?  We thought so! And when we admire a space, we try to recreate it using our stencils and Benjamin Moore paint colors!  Come meet JoAnn and let’s see how you can replicate her sophisticated style…

Stolen Item No. 1: Chevron Kitchen Rug

Cozy yet inviting is how we see this kitchen.  We love how she’s added splashes of color using decor accessories.  That adorable accent rug could easily be replicated with a little help from one of our stencil patterns!

To STEAL THE LOOK of the rug in this kitchen, use Cutting Edge Stencils’ Chevron Allover Stencil, a zippy striped design.  Consider stenciling a color like Benjamin Moore’s buttered yam AF-230.  This delicious deep orange fosters the good feelings of home and happiness, making it the perfect choice for a kitchen rug! Furniture Stencils Give Old Furniture A Fresh Face

Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends.  Did you know that furniture stencils and paint can help uncover the hidden charm of your curbside treasure?  DIY decor has never been easier to craft now that we have a large selection of stencils for furniture.  Our craft size patterns can help transform an old item into something new and functional.  Come see how one of our furniture makeover mavens freshens a tired table into a stunning showpiece.

We’d like to introduce you to Quia, the interior designer and furniture restorer behind QZ Design Gallery.  Quia had inherited an old brown table. The wooden table had wrought iron legs and a top that was dated and dull.  Despite its present condition, Quia felt that paint and pattern could easily freshen it up.  Here is what the table looked like before:

The first thing she did was tape off the legs and prime the tabletop. Then it was ready to be stained!

Quia decided to stain, glaze and antique the wooden table. Here is what it looked like after she completed that process.

Once the table had been stained and glazed, Quia was ready for the fun part, stenciling!  She browsed our furniture stencils to find the right pattern and selected the Rabat Craft Stencil.  This popular Moroccan-inspired pattern is perfect for crafting small DIY projects.

Quia placed the craft stencil in the center of the table.  She used painters tape to hold it in place and a dense foam roller to paint the pattern in an eye-catching blue.  After each section of the stencil was painted, Quia would lift the stencil and reposition so she could carry the pattern across the table.  Are you ready to see how it all turned out?  Here is Quia’s stenciled table.

Quia had this to say about her stencil project,”Amazing what a little sanding, staining, glazing and antiquing can do for an old table!”

We absolutely love this table transformation.  Quia said, “Sanded, primed, antiqued & finished with a BOLD blue pattern. Love this project!”

Learn How To Paint An Old Dresser Using Moroccan Stencils

Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends!  Rather than toss that old piece of furniture to the curb, we’re going to show you how paint and stencil patterns can rescue it!  Our furniture stencils make DIY furniture makeovers easy and affordable. Here is how one crafty blogger used the Rabat Furniture Stencil to freshen up an old dresser.  Come be inspired…

We’d like to welcome back Kammy, the creative blogger and home makeover queen behind Kammy’s Korner.   Kammy had a friend call her and offer her a curbside French Provincial dresser.  It was beat up with a broken drawer. Here is what it looked like:

Yikes! But this roadside cutie was about to become a trash to treasure story. Kammy loves to rescue roadside pieces and give them new life. She picked it up in her truck and brought it home. The first thing she did was lightly sand the dresser and give it a fresh coat of light graypaint.

It was already looking better with just a simple coat of paint. Unfortunately it had two broken drawers and fixing them would have been a time consuming challenge. Kammy decided to ditch the two broken drawers and create a cubby space.  Rather than leave it a solid color she chose to add a peek-a-boo pattern.  Kammy had previously used the Moroccan craft stencil on her stenciled mantel and felt it was perfect for this project.  We love when our stencils are reused for multiple project! Kammy had the Rabat Craft Stencil in a size small.

With her Moroccan pattern in hand, Kammy was ready to start stenciling!  She used blue painter’s tape to adhere the stencil to the wood.  Then she painted the stencil pattern in a darker gray using a dense foam roller. If you are recreating this project at home, be sure to roll off extra paint so it doesn’t bleed under the stencil. The key to stenciling is using very little paint.

Because the dresser was so large, she did need to lift the stencil and reposition to finish her project. Ready to see how it all turned out?  Here is her stenciled provincial dresser with stenciled cubbies.

We simply love the idea of a peek-a-boo pattern on furniture because we feel like it adds extra special charm.

The after pictures shows what a drastic difference that paint and a stencil pattern can make on an old piece of furniture.
