One sweet idea is to frame recipes – some of your family favorites recipes. Old hand-written recipes that belong to your mom or grandma. It’s a great way to preserve them and display them in your kitchen and it’s really easy to do. One of my favorite recipes of my mom’s was one that I helped her make since I was itty-bitty… monkey bread (that’s the link to the actual recipe). The other recipe that is in the frame is her Hot Cider Punch. Yum.
My sister gave me these 2 recipes of moms in a frame. I did end up painting the frame a chippy white and added a bit of brown kraft paper behind the recipes. It’s really simple to frame recipes. All you need to do is pick which recipe(s) you want to frame and then find a frame that it will fit in. More than likely you already have a frame that will work.
You can always paint the frame and add scrapbooking paper or even brown kraft paper like I used as a sort of matte. I just used a glue stick to stick the kraft paper down to the frame backing.
I love all of the character in these recipes…grease spots, splatters, even a heart cut out in the piece of paper. You’ll also notice the recipe on the index card at the bottom has Granny in parenthesis. {love}
Just make sure that whatever picture frame you use will compliment the recipe AND your kitchen. It will become a piece of art and a beautiful and memorable keepsake that you’ll eventually hand down to your own kids.
If you paint your frame, be sure to add a clear coat as well. That way you’ll be able to dust and wash the frame if/when needed. Hang it somewhere safe so that grease won’t splatter on it (since it’s going in the kitchen). I added a small piece of rope on the frame to hang it by and it hangs right by my back door in the kitchen. It’s definitely a piece that I treasure.
